Services: Getting Started
If this is your first website, congratulations on taking your first step!
And don't be afraid to ask questions. That's what we're here for.
In case it may help you prepare, here are seven questions we'll be asking you. (Don't worry if you don't have all the answers yet. This simply helps us know where to start.)
- Do you have a host?
This is where your website "lives." Our personal favorite is Hostgator. Good service, good rates.
- Do you have a domain name?
This is your website's "address." It will look something like www.yourname.com, and it will cost between $9/year and $15/year to register. Choose a domain that your clients will easily recognize. It can be your name, your business name, or it can describe the products/services you provide. Good domain names are easy to remember and easy to spell. You can register a domain at Godaddy, Network Solutions, or Enom.
- What is the primary purpose for your website?
What do you want your website to do? Inform, sell, teach, impress, create community, etc.? What do you want your visitors to do or to gain from their visit?
- Who will be your visitors?
- What is your budget?
We'd like to provide you with our best services possible to fit your budget. A higher rate will buy more customized design, more consulting hours, and priority scheduling. But if you don't mind starting with a template and doing a little footwork on your own, you can have an attractive professional web presence on a limited budget.
- What pages do you want at your website?
This is where we'll build the structure of your site. We can talk more about this after we've discussed questions 3, 4 and 5.
- What do you want your website to look like?
This is the fun part. Have in mind the colors you like, URLs of websites you like, and any marketing materials you currently use.
Once we've determined the answers to these questions, we'll put together a plan and an estimate. You'll approve the plan, and we'll get started!
